NVIS Filter and Affordable NVIS Compatible Display

Many night activities are made possible with the assistance of a night vision goggle or night vision imaging system (NVG/NVIS); which collects, amplifies, and images the near IR range of radiations of an object and makes the object visible which would have otherwise been hard to see by unaided eyes. The light sources other than the radiations from the interested object usually interfere with the proper functioning of a NVG/NVIS (being less sensitive), such as the light from the displays of the control panel in a cockpit. Thus, displays (or light sources) will need to be properly filtered by a NVIS filter to be visible to the unaided eyes yet compatible with a NVG/NVIS.

RSP developed coating processes that would produce different classes of IR-cut off filters, NVIS filters, suitable for NVIS compatible applications. We can also make filters with customized IR cut-off specifications. Please call us for details.

A 6.4" LG LCD was installed with our NVIS filtered high bright LED backlight, integrated with our iMesh and gTouch. The display shows very little greenish color tone to the unaided eyes. The picture on the right was taken through a NVIS goggle. It is clear that the light from the screen of the treated 6.4" unit was successfully blocked and appeared invisible through NVIS goggle.

RSP offers various NVIS filters and NVIS compatible products. A nvisTouch (or nvisFilter) that is laminated with such a IR cut glass may be conveniently overlaid on top of a display to achieve a high level of NVIS compatible DHA. These IR-cut filters may also be cut to the size and installed in a LCD backlight strip.
